Halloween Safety, something we probably haven’t had to think about too much the last couple of years so here are a few things to keep in mind heading into the hallo-weekend!
-
Bright costumes are best for trick or treating. No matter how awesome your kid’s scream cloak may be, it is always better to be safe! If their costume isn’t made to be bright then add reflective pieces to it. You can find reflective wristbands on amazon or sometimes at the dollar store.
-
Make sure your kiddos can walk easily in their outfit. Long pieces or pants dragging on the ground are a quick tripping hazard! This also goes for having comfortable and well fitting shoes.
-
Hats should be fitted to your little’s head! This may seem like an odd one to discuss but if their hat can cover their eyes it could pose a hazard. Using a small piece of foam to fill a large gap or attaching a string to keep the hat on their head can make all the difference.
-
Use coloured glow sticks or flashlights to make not only you but your kiddos easy to find when the sun goes down.
-
Keep your porch well lit! Resist the temptation to have a dark and spooky entrance for trick or treaters to avoid tripping hazards.
-
Avoid real candles in your jack o'lanterns. No one wants a small trip or a bump to turn into a fire hazard! Using flameless candles gives everyone peace of mind plus you can use them again.
-
Check your treats for open packaging. This may be a redundant reminder but always keep an eye peeled for packaging that looks like it may have been compromised.
-
Review stranger danger and emergency procedures for your kiddos. It helps to have a code-word for when they find themselves feeling uncomfortable so you can step in.
Hoping that everyone has a happy, healthy and fun Halloween this year, whether you are trick or treating or handing out candy from home!
