Something I think many of us have found that with this hot market over the past 2 years, the sales process can definitely feel rushed. I would say especially if those in question are a first time buyer! So in saying that, here are a few questions to ask yourself BEFORE putting any money on the table:
-
Have you looked at the area? Ideally, visiting both during the day and night (even visiting overnight at an AirBnB if you can) will help clarify if the neighborhood is right for you
-
Do you know what renovations/ work is needed to make the space ideal for you? Acknowledging what are your wants versus needs in the house and what your timeline is for moving into your new space
-
Are you comfortable with your budget? And do you know what your mortgage payments look like compared to your income? I recommend looking into a prediction of what your utilities may cost for your home
-
Is your family growing? Are you pleased with what amenities are available that you may need as you and your family age? Really look at what you predict you might need for the next 5, 10 and 20 years
-
Are there activities to do in your area? Things to do outside the home can be extremely important when you’re new to an area, especially if you have children
-
Are there any red flags in your structure? Look out for sagging floors, bubbled paint, cracks in walls, inaccessible attic or crawl spaces. These are all areas that may be very difficult or expensive to repair before moving in
